An Update from the General Manager of VIM
Art Ellermann
January 2011
December saw pool utilization at 71% for 20 foot units, 82% for 40 foot units, and 78% for 45 foot units. Overall utilization was 80% for all chassis sectors.
HRCP II's new Portsmouth Chassis Yard, which was introduced in late September of 2010, has been a success and provided a central location for good, available chassis for motor carriers. Bare chassis must be returned to this location and should not be dropped at PMT. We continue to monitor chassis levels now that this year's peak season has come to an end. Fleet levels remain balanced at this time and the pool is no longer accepting new inductions of any size type. APMT and NIT have changed hours of operation going forward. The new hours of operation are 6am - 5pm.
Drivers must still pay close attention to inbound TIR's which may direct them to the T-9, the PCY damaged area or damaged lot at APMT for chassis that are being removed from the pool for age, offhire, etc. or have chassis exceptions on TIR or expired tags.
A requirement of VIT for a motor carrier to do business on the marine terminal is to wear personal protection equipment. Drivers are reminded that safety vests are required upon entering any marine terminal. Failure to abide by the safety rules may result in disciplinary action from Terminal Management.
